Today's Field of Audiology

Today's field of audiology considers the millions of people in the United States and abroad who suffer from dizziness, vertigo and balance disorders, as well as hearing loss and tinnitus.

Over a period of 30 years, the field of audiology has made huge strides in not only understanding the underlying causes of these widespread conditions, but through the development of advanced medical technology used to diagnose, treat and rehabilitate the patients who suffer from them.

The field of audiology has evolved from a technical specialty of hearing loss screening and hearing aid fitting to what is now a highly advanced medical discipline practiced by doctors of audiology who non-invasively diagnose, treat and rehabilitate patients from pediatric to elderly. Primarily, audiology practices receive referrals from and collaborate with a broad network of physicians, including neurologists, otolaryngologists, internal medicine, cardiologists and family physicians.
